Napoleonic Frigates

April 29, 2007

Welcome! There are few things in this world as impressive as a square rigged ship and the echoes of the last great warships still resound across book and film. Many children and adults have revelled in the stories of Hornblower and Bolitho and now Patrick O'Brian and others continue the tradition. In terms of Films many equally use the confines of a ship to frame a story Master and Commander, The Bounty and the Pirates of the Caribbean all help continue the wonder.

This site covers several bases. The Full Build section will take an assumed beginner through the entire process of building a square rigged model ship (from a basic kit - plank on bulwark) hopefully it will help other modellers hitting any issues with their own kits.

The Historical section is for pages relating to my own interest in the Napoleonic Wars. Not entirely keeping myself to sea I delve into episodes of both historical and historiographal interest, hopefully some of it may be of interest to you.

Other will cover anything I do not think matches the other headings. In it I will include such things as my reviews of ship related items (such as the impressive HMS Tricomalee (pictured right)) or reviews of a particular series of books. Links will hopefully build into a useful means of contact for the modeller/historian into the future.

If anything proves of interest then this site will have done its job.
