Frigate Chapter Eight: Odds and Sods
The odds and sodds ection is basically comments on the little things that now need doing. The gratings comprised one of those "oh bugger how could I have been so stupid" moments. In my last model I had spent hours trying to work out how to generate a grating using the 'grating kits' and in the end decided on the somewhat questionable approach of laying the pieces flat and gluing them horitzontally together. It worked but this time I actually realised they are supposed to attach together like two combs facing each other..

Naturally that worked much better. Since I had remembered to do the coppering before fitting the cannon balls that also went better though the kit instructions here also folowed this approach. Again remembering from last time I remembered to stain the walnut before fitting thus preventing damage to the deck.
The stairs built up nicely and managed to fit quite well. I can still see the planked undr deck ever so slightly though when the upper deck and ships boats get added this may be more a - know its been done as opposed to be able to see how it was done extra touch.

The pin rail was simple enough to build up and I painted it in sections to avoid making a mess. In the picture above you will also notice the built up erm ready to go.
Finally the inner bulkhead painting was done with two layers and the usual protective layer of masking tape on the deck to prevent as much deck damage as could be done.
