Frigate Chapter Thirteen: Hull Complete

January 12th, 2009

Reports always tend to speed up at this point as I cover a lot before taking the time to say what is happening. I started this section with the ships boats and followed the kit instructions. Not much else to say really except that you are dealing with some very thin and breakable pieces. I found that planking both ends worked well and that the most difficult plank to place was the first. Recommendations if this approach is taken is to always paint the deep sections before adding the outer (basically do not wait to paint until the boat is built).

Placing them was averagely difficult though in hindsite I would have glued the base before painting the underside and maybe pinned and not glued as it was to easy to knock them even once placed.

The remaining items constituted the deadeys for the shrouds (note make absolutely certain these are very secure othewise a world of pain awaits you when you start rigging). Adding the guide ropes and some of the deck figures plus finishing of decoration and a paint touch up. I also generated a base and set it up now as I would not want to turn the ship upside down when the masts were ready. As it turns out I think I was still to late doing this as I still had to treat the existing model ginergerly and could not get the security I had hoped for. Live and learn.
